A local guide makes introductions when a bereaved family welcomes visitors to a Rambu Solo funeral. The family sets the time and receives guests during its own gathering. Receptions, processions and animal sacrifices can happen at different stages, with the guide explaining what is taking place. Black clothing covers shoulders and knees; photographs need the hosts’ permission. Ma’Nene also follows household and community dates. Attendance at either ceremony depends on a family invitation, including for travelers on an organized tour.
